SWEET!!!
    #1708106 - 07/12/03 10:51 AM (13 years, 4 months ago)

My buddy has just noticed his first pins! He is going to send some pics later, but his camera battery is dead right now. He was getting worried, that nothing was going to happen. He put this one cake in his PMP on July 2, and it just started pinning. There are about 10 little knots with no heads, and 2 small pins with baby heads, and one decent sized one with about a 1/4" head on it.

He put 5 more in on Monday. He did not dunk or anything. His remaining jars he put in the fridge yesterday for cold shocking and dunking to see if it makes a difference. He also started soaking some popcorn last night. He told me to thank all of the shroomerites for all of the help so far, and he is stoaked. Patience pays off!

One question, how can he tell if a pin is an abort? If he looks at them every few hours should he notice more growth?

abort will darken and head will go to black also if you start seeing a dark stripe up the stem ease off the humidity

Cool, I told my friend and he said he will keep an eye out for that. How long until they are mature after pins?

I want to eat them now! My buddy just birthed 5 more cakes that he dunked and cold shaocked first. He wants to see if there is a difference or not.

Coldshock should initiate mad pinning, along with dunking.. Dunking also rehydrates the cake, giving it a nicer flush.
Tell him not to waste his time, it does make a difference, and its in his favor

The myc shrinked up and feels all bumpy on the dunked cakes. They 'look' like they would do better.

Is there any need to cold shock between flushes? I would think not, but who knows?

yes, if you want multiple flushes you need to rehydrate the cakes. if you arent using the double end casing tek (in PF tek) then you need to dunk them again after each flush. you dont ever have to cold shock for p. cubensis, even to begin with. i usually do it anyway too though. no harm done, but i dont know if it helps either. also, try rolling your cakes in dry verm after you take them out from dunking/cold shocking. and then spraying the verm until it is moist. this gives you more pinning points.

Well he sent me some pics, and wanted to ask everyone to comment if they want. Is he doing everything correct?

This first pic is of him PMP. The top is a bit ugly because he broke the plexiglass a bit. He first glued it on with silicon which did not work. He never got any condensation, becuase one whole side of the plexi came off the lid. Since then he drilled and riveted the two together and put electric tape on both sides of the lid.

This next pic is of his PMP without the lid.

Finally the pinning cake. The pins first showed up yesterday morning. Do they look normal to you?

I'd say they look normal. How come in the pic of the terrarium I don't see any geolite? But in the pin pic I can see it clearly.

The first pic, the window has condensation all over it. In the second pic the whole bottom of it has the geolite in it. Did I answer your question or am I missing something?

I realize I may have posted this in the wrong forum, if it needs to be moved to grow logs that is fine with me. I was not sure were to put it since I still had some questions for my buddy. He is totally nervous about screwing this up.

On another note my friend loves his new Sony DSC-585 digi. I need to steal it from him. It takes nice pics.

they look good, i've never had the white fuzz on the caps like that though, it could be the strain, but ive thought it was also a symptom of low humididity, tough the lid does look good and condensated

It is B+ if that helps with the spots. I thought about that to when he showed them to me.

Here is an update that my friend just sent me. He noticed that the bases are fat and have myc growing on them, and now he is a bit worried about the spots. What the hell are they? He also thinks he needs to spread the cakes out a bit. Will duning and rolling them in verm on the next flush make them pin more, besides on the bottom? If the spots are no problem, he is happy cause the look like the crazy shrooms he has ingested in the past.

Thanks Shirley. That means a lot coming from you. I guess the spots are ok. I went over to my friends house and another of his cakes is starting to pin now. He has not noticed any aborts yet. What if you had a knot that did not grow? Just leave it? Dang, I just noticed four new baby pins on that cake. I can only hope that the rest do the same thing. I am going to make my friend give me a bunch, since I am his internet bitch and all!
