    #17078225 - 10/22/12 10:23 AM (11 years, 3 months ago)

i had a issue with overwatering, i was getting mutated pins , i left the lid off my sgfc for a about two days with no misting, things have dried up nicely, i notice a mushroom smell now when i fan. the cakes have lost alot of thier weight but thats good becuse before they were waterlogged , i would mist them and come back a few hours later and still see a pool of water on top of them they did not absorb it at all,. its been a couple of days sence i misted , like i said before the cakes have lost a good bit of thier weight, im scared to mist, it looks like the vermic on top is drying up and turning a little lighter in color, but when do i mist?

I mist as needed and fan 3 times per day. If it looks like it needs misting then I mist it. In other words I keep things nice & moist not 100% saturated. I don't hose it down, but give it a decent misting.

Exactly what it sounds like. Fan out the FC to provide a complete and thorough exchange of air.

Take the lid and wave it back and forth over the tub to clean out the stale air and replace it with fresh.

As for misting, it should be done a few times daily if possible, and the cakes should have absorbed the water within 20 minutes or so.  If there's standing water on the cakes after an hour, mist less often or less quantity.  This is just something that takes eyeballs on each project to determine.

I think RR covered when to mist and what to look for.

If the top of the cake dries totally out, there is a good chance it will get green mold next time you mist.  You better mist lightly as the cake slowly evaporates off its extra moisture.  You're the only one who can tell if the water has absorbed after 20 minutes or not.

You can use a piece of paper to fan, anything will work.

Misting as in using a spray bottle on the mist setting.

Am I correct in thinking you spray upwards and let the mist fall on your cakes etc?  All the way through harvest.  Never directly?

I am using an electric fan to mist. I have two metal bars that I lay across the sgfc. I put a cheap Dollar Store grill on that and lay the fan on the grill pointing down. Am I cheating?
