Habitat:
Portland suburbs

Gills:
Off-white, pinkish

Stem:
2"-3", white/tan, infested with bugs

Cap:
2"-4" diameter, white/tan, younger specimens seem to have flat tops.

Spore print color:
Spore print coming soon

Bruising:
yellow stains on the skin of the cap, but the flesh does not bruise

Other information:
They look a hell of a lot like Agaricus Augustus, but the smell doesn't seem right, and it's been COLD in Portland lately.

This is an interesting find.  I wouldn't call it Agaricus augustus because of the stem texture.

It might be something like http://www.mykoweb.com/CAF/species/Agaricus_perobscurus.html

A species which has never been reported that far north.

You should email those pics to Rick Kerrigan and see what he says.

got the spore print, a sort of reddish chocolate brown, similar to that of the prince. Not a black brown as described with the Agaricus perobscurus. The smell is still not quite the same as the princes I'm used to.

That sure doesn't look like an Agaricus print, are the colors in that pic accurate?

I took the pic under a fluorescent bulb, so the color is a bit brighter, but it's pretty accurate.

Kind of a dark rust. It really is quite a bit brighter with florescent lighting. I'll take a picture tomorrow in natural light.

It's clearly an Agaricus, must be missing one if its pigments.    What color did the gills on the mushroom turn?

well there is red spored cubensis strains so why not an orange spored Agaricus?? :wtf::shrug: its pretty wierd for sure.

I would dry this mushroom and mail it to the appropriate parties myself. It may be a phaeoagaricus, if such a thing even exists.

Very cool find- id love to see more pics!
