Why would someone want to take ambien recreationally?

I am genuinely curious if there are actually pleasant effects, or something that people enjoy?

I don't know why you would want to take it recreationaly.
I inadvertently take it recreationaly sometimes.
I'll take it and if it doesn't put me down. Then I come to several hours later with complete and total amnesia and pull out my phone to see what time it is and I freak cuz I think I've stolen a phone. Turns out I just decided to COMPLETELY re-organize my interface on my rooted android and fuck with every little setting possible.
Weird thing that amnesia.

It does not seem like my cup of tea, but it intrigues me the effects from something that is supposed to be so simple.

It just puts you to sleep but if you stay awake you eventually start tripping, from what I've heard.

Lol yeah it was pretty badass.
I was up at like 4-5 am one time in an empty dormitory building that was completely empty except for me and maybe a couple of RA's. This was around the end of May, between Spring and Summer semesters. So the whole 7-story, 480-room building was empty. All mine.
The power turned off around 4 am and the halls were completely dark, except for the dull red glow of the exit signs.
So I took 40mg Ambien which I was prescribed, and proceed to race butt-naked down the dark halls of my deserted dorm building at 5 in the morning.
Fun times, fun times.

It's like a delirious trip. Except really drunk and sedative. No introspection, just "what the fuck..." I wouldn't recommend it, but it is interesting to say the least.

Yeah there's definitely the lack of physical coordination as with alcohol. I personally wouldn't recommend it more than once, since Ambien is extremely unhealthy.

I took something like Ambien or Lunesta, but I dont remember the name right now.
I took it, smoked 2 bowls, then laid down to sleep. Keep in mind, I was asking my mom a day before if she had like Valium to help me sleep, and then she gave me this, and I actually really thought she was just giving me like Ibuprofin or something. I genuinely didnt know it was a sleep aid, and if anything, I thought it was just Valium.
I started hearing voices. But not like, "Hey bro, you gotta go kill your family! Haha, your neighbor is the devil, and so burn his house down..." nothing like this bullshit you always here 'schizos' lie about hearing(why do these people never hear "donate to charity" or something?).
It was like actual blipits of normal conversations people would have. Not only that, I could then personify the voice, and I would SEE whoever was saying it, including a 53 year old latino man, a black mother of 3, a cheerful, friendly war veteran with grey hair. I would LITERALLY see these random people that went along with the voice, which would just say random every day conversational shit. It was like I tapped into some ethereal field where I was actually picking up on parts of other people's lives, it was REALLY weird.

I once experienced this same thing on mushrooms, except it was all these different steams of consciousness occurring at the same time so it was very hard to follow. I did have the visual image associated with each separate conscious though.

Haha that's awesome. It was the only time it happened tho, I took it afterwards a few times and just slept.
But I even remember talking to her the next day, "So what did you give me, Ambien or something? Cause I KNOW what tripping is like... and THAT was tripping" She had a good laugh at that

If you decide to take a high dose of any dissacative OTC med. Whatever you do don't fall asleep, you will get stuck in the worst introspective vivid lucid nightmare that will seem to drag on for an eternity.

I'm starting to think some 37 year old computer programmer in Brooklyn took something in 1987 and has been hallucinating my entire life, so this makes sense.

I'm not following you here, I'm not talking about a permatrip, you'll most likely be fine by morning ive never heard otherwise. Just horrible vivid nightmare that will go on and on for what feels like forever. I'm sure a lot people here know the feeling.

No I know, it was a joke about life being that long, drawn out, vivid, lucid introspective trip that never ends.
