Koh Samui strain slow or dead?

Ok, this jar was inoculated a week ago sunday (a week + 4 days) and only about 1/3 of it on the top, if that, is covered with mycelium. Is the strain really that slow or is the jar dead?

Flip the jar, most likely it's stalled due to lack of air. Are the holes taped on the jars? Make sure you have air holes and flip the jar - should start growing again.

I'm also experiencing with Koh Samui strain and noticed it is slow. Slower germination time. Once it starts to grow, it's quite fast tho. Not the best, but a respectable speed I would say.
But at the end, man, i just can't get these pins to mature. What a pain they are to me.
Maybe my spores are weaks...
good luck with yours. .fs.

i used 2 ccstemp is probably 75 degrees and there are holes in the top, the jar is in a very small container, there's only like a half inch between the top of the jar and the top of the container do you think that could have anything to do with it?

You should incubate at around 86f as well. 75f is kinda low for incubation. You want 75f for fruiting. I don't think it has to do with the top of the container, just flip the jars, warm it up a bit, you'll be fine.

theres yer problem...optimum temperature for mycelial growth is around 80 - 86 degrees...a friend of a friend's water buffalo is also growing koh samui...temperatures are on average 84 degrees and mycelium had covered the sides of the jar in just 10 days...get those temperatures up and watch the fuzz spread... and don't forget to chant the water buffalo's mantra... koh samui...grow samui....koh samui....grow samui....

AFOAFOAFOAFOAFOAF is growing Koh Samui and Lipa Yai...he inoculated on June 25 and it's now July 10th and he's not seeing a lot of growth at all...the most growth in a jar is about a little less that 1/3 covered in mycelium. Though he figured out what might have happened...he injected the spores in the middle of the substrate instead of along the sides. Also his water content in his substrate might have been a little less than optimal...he has been incubating at 80*F and now he took off his tape and is allowing air exchange to occur...he hopes that they will grow quicker now...he has been waiting a while...I hope his jars pull through this.

My friends B+ jars took a month to colonize. They are in the terrarium now.

Move up to Birdseed, PF jars take way to long, they're just slow. Follow the grain teks to a T and you'll be fine, they're not as newbie unfriendly as everyone says they are. I got 9 jars out of 10 to colonize my first try.

^^^ I agree....even though I haven't tried Grain's or Popcorn the TEK's look pretty damn straight forward and simple if you can simply FOLLOW DIRECTIONS....I haven't seen anything in the world of cultivating that makes me think "damn that's going to be difficult."

AFOAF's Thai was the fastest most agressive colonizer he's seen. Temps need to be up higher 85-90 for these to take off in the jar. You really should try popcorn next time. Its CHEAP, CLEAN and EASY !

Do Popcorn. I know a kid who grows Lipa yai and they are bad ass colonizers, TERRIBLE fruiters. They take forever to fruit, once they do though it's pretty good. Real potent for a cubensis. Koh Samui is almost the same strain as Lipa yai, It is a very fast colonizer. Especially if you go get Clydes Koh Samui Super Strain from The Hawks Eye, that is supposed to be a fucking MONSTER. I'll tell you when i get mine .

I had the wierdest incubator chamber. I had a small plastic fish tank in the middle of a big rubbermaid storage container. The small one was filled with water to the top and had a water heater and an air stone to let air in. The jars were around around the small water filled container. I had this thing on throughout incubation and had nice mycelium but make sure that water doesn't drip off the rubbermaid top onto the jars cause they might rust.

it took 3 weeks for my grain jars to colonize. I then mixed them with poo n straw n gypsum. now I see the mushrooms growing but only about a 1/4 inch and the mycelium is starting to grow over them....... I hope yours grow better like at least 2- inches off the mycelium mat. I do not know what to do now.......
