You can't fruit a WBS cake?

I was reading this post that said about popcorn that it was only meant to be cased, and not fruited as a cake. I know someone who was planning on fruiting some WBS cakes, that are nice and thick and healthy... should he not do this or something? Is there some reason that WBS doesn't fruit well in cake form??

Brown rice flour is more for a beginner tek. When people move on to WBS, they usually move on to casing. WBS can be used as cakes, but if one has the ability to case it, why wouldn't you?

You can fruit them if you wish. Popcorn and WBS can be fruited as cakes, I have done it, but dont expect much yeild.
Case them.

This friend i kind of sorta know isn't sure if he has the ability. He made his first casing attempt today... what can you do to guarantee that you wont have contams without using a hepa/laminar flow hood/glove box? Casing seems a little risky to me... any tips on risk reduction are welcome. Is that even needed? Is casing alot easier than it sounds?

casing aint that hard lemon if u can meet all around needs of being clean and the area is the same u should not have problems. u should go with plain verm. frist and get the feel for it watch it and take notes on the thing u see going on u will be able to step up to a mix of ur choice and the proceed.
verm. alone first

Don't be afraid of casing. Afoaf did one his first grow (50/50 +lime & oyster shell) and it's turning out nicely. -FB edit: afriad to afraid

Just make an El Cheapo glove box.... rubbermaid, holes cut out, gloves attached, lysol.. done....
100% sucuess rate ever since.. . never have to worry again.... well worth the trouble....
and yes, casings are much easier than u think... start doing them NOW, and u will be a pro in no time....

I agree. I went through quite a bit of cleaning (degreaser-->Bleach-->Alcohol) on every surface I could possible touch and sprayed with Lysol, no problems. 3 1/2 days later I've got 15 - 20 nickel sized patches across the surface of the casing. It was soooo easy, if the yeild is as big as they say it will be, I'll never do another cake.

WBS isn't recommended for fruiting from cakes becuse it holds a lot less water than BRF/verm or rye grain, so the potential yields are a lot less, purely due to the lack of water. It makes a great spawn though....:)

Wow never thought i would see this thread resurrected. Frizzed, I tried to fruit that WBS cake i had... it started turning blue after about 2 weeks, after 3 weeks i gave up and ate it's ass. No knots, no pins... don't do it it doesn't work well at all.
