aftereffects from drugs that show mid-life?

i've heard about this type of shit happening usually someone will say something like "you may not feel any aftereffects now when you're young but when you're in your 40s your memory and heart ain't gonna be workin right because of all those drugs"
i've heard of a reserve memory or something in your brain where if that part of it keeps getting damaged than the reserve fills it up so the damage doesn't show but when you get older and it naturally deteriorates more there wont be any of the reserve left for it?

Depends on the drugs.

I can say that I have eaten a shit-ton of acid and mushrooms in my day, and I still do on occasion. Also DMT, typically oral with MAOI rather than smoked. I did some RC way back, probably 2CB but I never knew for sure . . I had a good amount and ran through it. (It was awesomely visual and lucid, much less mind-fuck that traditionals for the same level of visual OEV/CEV). Smoked weed daily for over 20 years and still do, though I only do a couple bong hits a day lately.
I am older than most on here by far (my birthday is purposefully wrong btw), and I have a job that requires a great deal of troubleshooting, planning on large scales, and interacting with others who are smart, educated, and many make a shitload of money. I have never felt that I have suffered any cognitive impairment from my activities.
I would worry about DXM and some of these RCs though. If there was one drug that I feel has done me a disservice, it is alcohol. Properly applied, I think LSD psilocybin DMT THC are pretty safe overall. I guess we'll see if I get brain cancer or go nuts in my 50s or 60s but so far so good, not too worried over here and I am over 40.

ok , the drugs that show effects mid-life. why do they do it?
Why do people do them, or why do some drugs have negative long-term effects? I think the latter is what you're asking. Some drugs, if you do enough of them, will harm your body in various ways. Long-term heavy alcohol use will destroy your liver, for example.

And your brain.

I've specifically heard that this happens with alcohol, but not so much any other drug.
The damage alcohol can cause is often understated. And only stoners point that out mostly, in an attempt to defend marijuana and make it seem better by comparison, so noone takes them seriously. But alcohol is very bad for you.
I watched a Youtube documentary that went into more detail. Basically the way that alcohol works on your brain and certain parts of your body in the long-term, is equivalent to being embalmed as Egyptians did with mummies.
But yes that is mainly alcohol, and other drugs probably do that as well, but I doubt all of them.

Hard to say. I'm 48 and my memory is good. I did have a triple-bypass about 5 years ago, but I have a long family history of early-onset heart disease, so I don't think it was the drugs. Of course, my drug of choice has always been weed, so I didn't fool around a lot with other stuff.

36, pretty in shape, mentally fairly sharp, memories good. I did get diagnosed with Asperger's for my birthday. Other than some specific lacks of motivation, what were we talking about?
