Another Casing question (Is it OK to case a second time?)

I have a friend that has cased 12 1/2 pint EQ cakes with 1 inch of 50/50 casing using peat. He left it covered at 82 degs for 2 days until he saw the first signs of it pop through. Then he moved it into his fruiting chamber with 95% humity and 73deg...it has been 4 days and is about to overlay...Well my question is should he put another layer of casing on it or let it go? Will it hurt it putting another layer of casing on it? Thanks guys DG

it?s ok to put a thin (1/4 inch) layer over the original casing layer now.

i think you put it in the fruiter to soon, once you see the mycelin pooking up through the top layer give it 2 or 3 days more to fully colonize.to fix that overlay try and lightly scratch the top layer and you could put a 1/4 inch casing layer on it like Anno said.

Too soon??? If I would have left it in there 2 or 3 more days it would have overlayed before I ever put it in the fruiter. I have been reading as much as I can on this and it seems like a person should put it in the fruiter even before you see it pooking out once you learn your strain...

Humidity is to high isn't it? I don't do casings-but I could've sworn humidity was supposed to be at 85% with casings. Guess I'm confused because no one else pointed this out. -Mr.Sleep

no no first sighn of mycelium poking through start fruiting dont let it incubate longer patch them areas and fruit that thing mycelium will continue to grow for a bit even in the fruiting enviroment

"Cropping: Relative Humidify: 85-92%"
I'm very confused. Isn't 95% MORE then 92%? I'm probably wrong-so someone correct me. -Mr.Sleep

95% is more than 92%, yes. Why?

It's hard to put a cubensis casing in the fruiting chamber too soon. Cubies have what's called "high mycelial momentum" meaning that the mycelium keeps vegitating for a while even after fruiting conditions are established. A day or two of post-casing incubation is often more than enough, and much more than that can set you up for an overlay.

Thanks guys just put a 1/4 inch of casing over it...Will keep you guys updated on what happens. I have done creepers in the past and didnt have this problem but this EQ strain looks to be much faster colonizer..Aslo thanks Anno for the link..looks like I'm doing everything right just need to wait. It states for Primordia Formation the Relative Humidity needs to be 95-100%. For cropping I'll bring it down a bit, but not until I see some pins DG
