Concering carrying prescriptions outside of containers.

I've got a couple of questions. The first: I have a little pill holder attached to my keyring. 95% of the time, it is filled with 10mg propanolol tablets for which I have an active prescription. But, would there be any chance of that getting me in trouble, if I don't have the actual prescription bottle with it? If a cop sees pills on someone that perhaps looks like me, he may not choose to believe my story. And secondly, I do occasionally carry pills for which I do have a prescription (often etizolam). But if I were to say, empty out a bottle zoloft (or whatever, pick your script), and fill it with etizolam, and just try to pass off etiz as zoloft, would that be of any use? I suppose it would also come down to how knowleadgable a given cop is about these substances. Thanks for any input guys

Many states require the meds be in the original bottle.
-------------------- You cannot legislate the poor into prosperity by legislating the wealthy out of prosperity. What one person receives without working for another person must work for without receiving. The government cannot give to anybody anything that the government does not first take from somebody else. When half of the people get the idea that they do not have to work because the other half is going to take care of them and when the other half gets the idea that it does no good to work because somebody else is going to get what they work for that my dear friend is the beginning of the end of any nation. I've wondered about this as well with all the prescriptions out there I highly doubt a cop is going to really check exactly what is in a prescription bottle as long as there all the same pills you'd think he'd pass it by, but as said above it would definitely depend on the cop.
You are supposed to keep them in the original prescription bottle. I know literally no one does that because they don't want to carry around that many bottles if they can throw a 1 days supply in a ziploc bag. I can't imagine a cop would bother hassling anyone over a couple prescription drugs that would be quite obviously a daily supply, but it's normally best to air on the side of caution.

I've kept mine in a fob for 10 years or so now.. without their original containers I could be seen as a person committing multiple felonies.. (I'd check your local/state laws and do a search here.)
The only place I see this being an issue as just another reason for a cop to buy time to fuck you or give another reason to tear the car apart.
On the other hand, you're not doing anything wrong, they're your meds for your health.
I stopped worrying about this when I got a med-alert bracelet. Also carry an ICE (In Case of Emergency) card in my wallet under my license. If anything ever happened, I've got my bracelet, a weathered Emergency card with medicine information, etc. and doctors/hospitals and what to do.
I know this is overboard, I get it, but if I go more than 4 hours without one of my medications I'm increasing in seizure risk every minute that goes by.
So basically I guess if you're not doing terribly illegal shit all the time I wouldn't think of it.
The last time it was an issue for me was when I was going through the airport and forgot to take it out of my pocket. It's as common to me now as say, brushing your teeth in the morning.
You need to protect your health, it sucks hard being somewhere far without meds, carry the things or get a med-alert if necessary, otherwise just don't carry 17 unmarked prescription pills in a baggie under the seat.
I hope that helps, I'm a bit foggy and underslept at the moment.
But to answer your question:

You have to check your state laws. Here in NY it has to be in the prescription bottle. I've had a friend brought to the police station for having 3 prescription pills in their own case. He was released after they confirmed his scripts with his doctor but it was a huge hassle.

I have had a cop check the contents of a pill bottle before. It CAN happen. It's not super likely, in most situations... but in some cases this can happen.
