Are there people that still believe in Norse mythology?
    #17046229 - 10/17/12 12:51 AM (11 years, 3 months ago)

Or Greek mythology, basically any ancient polytheistic mythologies like that.

I knew this guy once that was into Viking Metal, and he claimed to be a "Pagan" that believed in Odin and all of that, but it seemed pretty obvious that he was just pursuing a certain style, and wasn't genuine in his convictions.

I would guess that that kind of mythology quickly became irrelevant outside of the medieval tribe war culture.

But what be the answer to my question?

Naw, but I consider my connection to those ancestors pretty significant, especially when it comes to psychedelic mushrooms.

I like the way they tripped and went onto war.  Or at least they would work themselves up into a trip.  I can relate to that, but I also want nothing to do with the raping and pillaging.  The realities of that kinda suck.

i've been told the mushrooms-to-go-berserk thing turned out to be a myth. but they did have shamans who would eat fly agaric mushrooms for guidance and probably for fun to some extent

Yeah, or at least that is a fairly common intpretation of history.  Vikings would eat mushrooms to psych themselves up for war.  I assume the folks at stonehenge were munching liberty caps  fall festival

You have no idea how I trip.  It makes me an animal.

How can you go to war without tripping?

:lolsy:  Yeah I'll concede to that.

But I cannot imagine one going to war on Psilocybin mushrooms.

Tripping on PCP, more specifically, perhaps.

I would only do mushrooms, and only a bit.  It makes things sharp and surreal in a way that seems suitable for war, at least in low doses.

That said I'd prefer to avoid war, it makes for a mindfuck in the end.  I'd rather live to be a happy tripping old man.

But yeah, I'll put some faith in their extreme arcetypes for humans.

The legend is that Norse berserkers took Amanita mushrooms before battle, not Psilocybe.

Also you have to wonder what happens to all these long-forgotten deities... is Loki somewhere out there lurking in the hearts of the few true believers still left to remember his name?  :butcher:

y€es I still believe in norse mytholoy and follow the old norse religion (or as near as we understand it to have been). I've been a member of the asatru faith for about 7 or 8 years now. if you have any questions feel free to ask em.

As for the mushrooms leading to berserkerangr that has never been conclusively proven and personally I'm doubtful of the claims. However the use of psychedelic mushrooms for other religious purposes, visions, etc I'm fully in support of.

The gods are far from forgotten, worlwide there are estimated to be roughly a million or more of us who still follow the old gods. although the worship of loki in particular is somewhat contentious.

my mother is exactly the person who should trip psychedelics, unfortunately she is against it, she even hasnt been drunk. im trying to convince her to eat shrooms together.
and yes im from estonia. i have read that estonians in the coast line were even better vikings than nordic people..
but yeah i have been with those people in these holy forests. for entry you have to step through a gate and knock once on a hanging wood piece above( sry my english) what has a svastika on it. need to be quiet also. most of these hills/forests are forgotten or i mean churches built there long time ago.

Interesting.  I'm wary of the racist implications, I would probably piss on a piece of wood with a swastika on it, but I mean no personal offense.  I have just always been taught that the swastika is a symbol of hate.

I am investigating some of the long-fallen churches of the native american people in my area, but there are not many left and they never used mushrooms to my knowledge.  I have european ancestry but I also feel connected to the people who lived where I live.

Around here it is mostly about lines of stones, standing stones, balance rocks, and maybe small caves.

Lol correct me if I'm wrong (which I may be), you seem to show some "pride" you may call it, or fascination with the Viking War culture.

...but your against the Swastika because it's a symbol of hate?

Well, technically I don't have Norse ancestors to my knowledge, but Irish and north German, and I assume they are all intermixed.

Yeah, I totally relate to them as individuals and spiritual beings, but I want nothing to do with Nazis.
