I totally understand that.  I don't really know anything about that culture.  Hopi indians use it too and they were not Nazis.

Honestly I fucking hate the fact that the nazi's took one of the most sacred symbols in our religion and twisted it so horribly that we cannot even use it any more for fear of being branded racists... it really doesn't help that some neo-nazi groups have taken to associating with asatru and odinism either.

I say we take back the swastika and to hell with anyone who tries to say otherwise.

Good luck.  I used to draw it all over my shit in 6th grade because I liked the symbol, but then people set me straight and I was kind of embarrased because I don't want to be tied into that horrible BS.

in that religion? we have like fairys and holy trees and sacrifice stones and such.. not exactly gods.and my mother with those people i think do.not believe fairys but try to live by those old believes.

I don't know why you should feel ashamed or embarrassed, it is the intention behind the symbol that is more important than the symbol itself. take the crucifix for example, you set it up in a church and people have no problem with it, you put one up in a field and light it on fire and its suddenly a big deal. I think the same should be of the swastika. people should not feel ashamed to use the symbol for religious or aesthetic reasons any more than someone would feel shame for using a cross. and just like the cross we need to build awareness that we do not support or endorse the racist fuck tards who would use it inapropriately.

Edit: This song is rather appropriate methinks.

Yes but its most often a disguise of white supremacy.

Theres Odinism for one, many of its adherents are white supremacists and most of its orders do not allow non-white or mixed people to join.

Ulfrick, Odinist and Asatru organizations are absolutely OVERFLOWING with white supremacists. You may be in good circles but most of it is thinly veiled racist crud, at least here in Europe.

I quote Wikipedia:

Quote:

Odinism
"Odinism" redirects here. For other uses, see Odinism (disambiguation).

The term Odinism was coined by Orestes Brownson in his 1848 Letter to Protestants.[42] The term was re-introduced in the late 1930s by Alexander Rud Mills in Australia with his First Anglecyn Church of Odin and his book The Call of Our Ancient Nordic Religion.[43] In the 1960s and early 1970s, Else Christensen's Odinist Study Group and later the Odinist Fellowship brought the term into usage in North America. In the UK, Odinic Rite has specifically identified themselves as "Odinists" since the 1970s, and is the largest group to do so.

Although one Odinist group, the Odin Brotherhood, is neither racist nor folkish,[44] the term "Odinism" is sometimes associated with racialist Nordic ideology, as opposed to "Asatru" which may or may not refer to racialist or "folkish" ideals. As defined by Goodrick-Clarke (2002), Nordic racial paganism is synonymous with the Odinist movement (including some who identify as Wotanist). He describes it as a "spiritual rediscovery of the Aryan ancestral gods...intended to embed the white races in a sacred worldview that supports their tribal feeling", and expressed in "imaginative forms of ritual magic and ceremonial forms of fraternal fellowship".[45]

Odinists are "hard polytheists", and they believe that the gods and goddesses are real beings with distinct personalities.[46] In the words of the Odinist Fellowship, "Odinism is a polytheistic religion. We believe in and honour the life-giving and bountiful gods and goddesses of the Odinic pantheon, whom we refer to collectively as the High Gods of Asgarth, or as the Æsir and Vanir. Our gods are true gods, divine, living, spiritual entities, endowed with power and intelligence, able and willing to intervene in the course of Nature and of human lives. It behoves us to seek their goodwill and succour through prayer and sacrifice. But the gods do not require us to abase and humble ourselves; they do not seek to make of us craven slaves. Odinists therefore do not bow or kneel or kow-tow to the gods, but address them proudly like free, upstanding men and women. Odinists regard our gods, not as our masters, but as firm friends and powerful allies."[47]

In more recent times, the Odinist community in Australia has endorsed the "Melbourne Creed" of Odinism, which is a 9-point statement of belief, "An Odinist Creed."[48]

Or Greek mythology, basically any ancient polytheistic mythologies like that.

I knew this guy once that was into Viking Metal, and he claimed to be a "Pagan" that believed in Odin and all of that, but it seemed pretty obvious that he was just pursuing a certain style, and wasn't genuine in his convictions.

I would guess that that kind of mythology quickly became irrelevant outside of the medieval tribe war culture.

But what be the answer to my question?

Yeah, it's pretty silly. Especially when they have to throw all the macho metal bullshit in there, because the vikings were all totally badass tough guys yo.

But hey, everyone has their stupid shit to believe in to make their world a bit more straight. I'm certainly no different (I just have better taste).

I'm agnostic and don't really adhere to any religion, but If I were going to, it would be with a concept like Greek Mythology.
God (Zeus) ascended to power by killing Cornus, his Father, in revenge, rather than perpetually being omnipotent. Power amongst the Gods had parliamentary division; Dionysus -God of Wine. Poseidon- God of the Sea. Artemis-Goddess of the Wilderness. Etc.
If there was abuse in power they could call upon Zeus to hold council.
Every God displayed mortal weaknesses as well.
It's more diverse and democratic, I don't like the idea of one God having absolute power, like Saddam Husein and shit.

i consider myself to be a pagan and asatru is definitely something that interests me. I wear a thors hammer everyday and i think its shit that racists have perverted such sacred symbols and infiltrated such faiths.I found this article on wikipedia: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/%C3%81satr%C3%BA_in_the_United_States. Also i hardly know any other people into asatru other than myself. most pagans i know seem to be wiccan.

I'm for this!  There was a guy who had an ancient swastica in some tribal type artwork on his arm and some black dude on a bus got all pissed off, and when the guy tried to explain to the dude that he was misinformed, the dude cracked the guy in the jaw right before he got off at his stop, fucked his face up pretty bad.

I didn't know the guy personally, but he was known in the punk scene to definitely be a non-racist guy, the artwork was correct to the period in which it was meant to exhibit, it was not a nazi-swastica.

Me, I wouldn't get any kind of swastica done on my skin for this reason and this reason only... and it really is a shame... Everyone hates nazis and Hitler so much, but why haven't we taken our symbols back?

Thats what you get for sporting a swastika.

I'm not saying its RIGHT but society is not ready so, that's what you get. You cant force people to "get over it"because you like the symbol. Some less informed guy is going to get offended and clock you in the jaw.

My wife's sister and her sister's husband are some type of pagans, I'm not sure of the details as I don't see them often. I would ask but the husband seems a bit over-eager to convince people to join, which I have zero interest in.

I've thought about getting a swastika tattoo for the religious connotations but if I was I'd get it somewhere not generally visible to the public, my upper thigh or something, I would know its there the symbolism and meaning would be the same but random black guys are less likely to break my jaw for it, and if they try I can always counter back with. "why where you pulling my pants down in public in the first place?"

Edit: and yeah wiccan seeker unfortunately there IS a branch of the white supremacist movement who have co-opted our symbols and religion, but you will find most of them brand themselves as odinists while most of the non-racialists tend to identify as asatruar. although there is some overlap obviously, you will find that most freeholds and kindreds at least here in canada have ZERO tolerance for racism of any kind.

We pretty much see the neo-nazi's who try and claim our faith the way most people see westboro baptist church in relation to christianity. they may claim to be of the same faith but really they are just fucking insane nut jobs who are using the religion as a mask for their biggotry.
