verm casing

i've heard a little bit about using straight vermiculite as a casing. i couldn't find a tek on this, and was wondering, is it a good way to grow? to my understanding, i think the mycelia would grow through it fast, but will the substrate be enough to fetilize the crop? and what do you use, wbs, brf&verm, rye?

you will grow, again (third time this evening) it isn't the best way way to grow in terms of amount and potency. but you will produce at least a couple flushes. any fully colonized substrate will work as long as you give it the proper growing conditions. crumble your substate, then apply nuked moist verm on top to about 1 1/2 inches to to inches. Please read the FAQ it's just a couple more inches to the top of the screen.

btw, the faq will only tell me how to do a verm casing. i'm not a total retard, i DO understand how to do a verm casing, its actually self explanatory, the faq WILL NOT give me other growers experienced opinions on whether or not it is a GOOD way to grow or not, which is what i was looking for.

yeah, i know. i just hate being told that when i know my answer is not there.

myco: I normally grow on poo and straw casing. its worked out great for me. Right now though, i have a few cakes. i was just curious about that method and wanted to know if it was faster because it was all vermiculite. is it?

my plan is to slice my cakes into 3/4 inch slices and cover the bottom of a rubbermaid tub with them, then add the verm layer. i did this with my first grow, but used compost and verm as my casing layer. i used treasure coast btw, good strain.

If you couldnt tell TC is my fav strain. It is a very nice caser. It has a very high pinning rate. Dont slice cakes just crumble. Ive found that to be best. Put down some moist verm before the cakes. verm ive seen is a very basic all around casing layer. I dont use it becasue of low yeild compared to others. But other than that its good.

does it cultivate faster than other methods? that would be my only reason for using that method.

You know since i'm too cool for school, I took time out of my bussy scedule (bullshit) to give you this link that shows verm caseing at its finest. http://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php?Cat=&Number=1701264&page=0&view=collapsed&sb=5&o=&fpart=1 Very nice. I would rather have a better yeild than a faster cultivation but thats just me

Go for Jiffy mix (pre-mixed 50/50+ mix) or Coco Coir. I almost always agree with Soochi, but i think 1-1.5" is much too thick. Usually you want 1/4 your substrate layer. Any kind of substrate works. Strait verm will work but it does not hold the water that coir or jiffy mix will, and buffering it with hydrated lime will help. Go with those, Jiffy mix is easy as shit, it is already mixed for you!

seriously, would it take much effort to do a search??? click on some of the other threads that ask the exact same question. and if it isn't on the FAQ then it probably isn't the most recommended tek.
