my other-self used all the verm!!! could one use perlite as a bottom casing layer??? much thanx to the shroomery!!!

perlite would be good as a bottom layer, if you want one.

for a top layer, if you have no verm, use peat and coir (plus chalk, oyster, whatever to blanace the acidic ph of peat)

Perlite releases moisture while vermiculite retains it. Perlite can be used in a lower casing, but it wouldn't be your best option.
