Wow Excellent, was this in the woods or in more of a residential area? Out of curiosity. Likely Psilocybe caerulipes

I would say definitely a psilocybe, not sure what species... Looking into it, I don't know what grows up in Nova Scotia...
Edit: Damn didn't see your post joust, thought I was onto one, :-).... I think I agree w/ p. caerulipes.....

Sweet find! Doesn't look like caerulipes. Maybe Psilocybe baeocystis.

If were going by logic, it doesnt look like baeos either But I understand, ive just seen Psilocybe caerulipes look different depending on exactly what it is growing on, however, It is likely something else entirely, like a baeo, which would be odd for that region... no? Always go with the TI Interesting to say the least!

See the way the cap dried evenly "white"? Caerulipes doesn't do that...Psilocybe section Aztecorum I think.

"Eastern Baeos" were found by Herb Baker and Bessette, Bessette and Fischer list it in their key for the region.

See..that's crazy.. that print looks black as fuck to me.
Can't see any brown in it.. I bet I've thrown away plenty of good active psilos because I can't tell the difference between black and purple/brown.

Well if they blue thats also a pretty damn good indicator, as a wise man once said, if it prints black or purple brown and noticeably blues on contact, then its hallucinogenic and safe.

Pretty stumped myself guys, never came across them before, they are still growing in my back yard (edge of lawn/woods) so I will keep an eye on them. Not sure if they are going to get any bigger or not, the 2 habitat pics are 2 days apart with no progress other than a little hygrophanous, not sure if it was the cold(3 degrees C) or the sun yesterday, likely the bit of sun. I must say we've had unseasonably warm temps. this fall and maybe that has something to do with these growing.

Another possibility is Psilocybe quebecensis which has a cap that is hemispherical with an inrolled margin like these. The range of that species is poorly understood.
You should take some spore prints and dry some specimens for somebody to look at under the scope and maybe give you some answers. A rare find in my opinion no matter what they turn out to be.

Yeah, I would say very rare, im extremely interested in what they turn out to be. Be killer if they turned out to be P. quebecensis.

OK, will take few prints, I must say though Bob they do mostly resemble the Psilocybe Aztecorum as you said but just not the correct region.

I think he was saying Psilocybe, section Aztecorum, which has a few species in it.
