Boletus aereus on agar * 1
    #17025472 - 10/13/12 06:39 PM (11 years, 7 months ago)

For those who don't know it, Boletus aereus is the black variety of porcino. Very good and probably better than B. edulis.
However, I cloned a little specimen on 09/26/ on MEYA, and currently it is slowly colonizing it. The interesting thing is that it seems like it started to pin from tissue pieces. I'm curious to see how it goes.

The cloned guy

After seeing some paper about boletes fruiting on agar I got curious, so I tried to prepare some agar jars using dried porcino fruitbodies as nutritious medium. Just inoculated them some minute ago, if something nice will happen, I'll update this thread.

I've heard that boletus edulis doesn't grow too well on agar, but never seen any attempts at it. Hope it grows out nice and healthy for you, good luck!

Others have gotten this species to pin on agar, but not to fruit.

Nope, I'm storing the petri in the fridge and mycelium is still growing, even if terribly slowly. I tried to prepare some petris with a different agar formula, using dried fruitbodies as nourishment, but without any result
