Birthing for Cassing
    #1702243 - 07/10/03 11:11 AM (21 years, 6 months ago)

Have a set of BRF 1/2 pint cakes, most of them are at about 90% right now and colonizing fast (I made my own spore innoculate for the first time and went a little crazy with the number of spores I put in). These cakes are destined for a 60/40 casing (vermiculite and coco coir) and my question is when should I birth and crumble them? I am thinking when the outside is at 100% it doesnt mean that the inside is 100% colonized. Is this just a fals perception? Should I wait a few more days after the outside is done to insure the majority of the inside is colonized? Or just birth and crumble at the same time I would if they were going into a terrarium?

Thanks for the help!

The general rule of thumb for PF cakes is wait 5-7 days for the inside to colonize. Not sure if anyone has ever done an experiment to check the different stages of internal colonization after the outside has fully colonized. Be on the safe side, wait a couple days...

well AFOAF's first grow he waited a good 10-14 days after innoculation to birth even with the brf disappearing after about 7. there is really nothing wrong with being prepared/being cautious.
