Well OK. I certainly must study this more.
But my Azure mycelium isn't having these characteristics, are they? I dont think my azure is mold.

No, your Azure mycelium looks like mushroom mycelium to me. But why not take a better picture of your plate that looks like mold, and post it?

Well it was another plate with Azure mycelium that looked similar to the plate you think is mold, or maybee the first pic in an erlier stage. Unfortunatley i haven't got a picture of it on this computer or i have discarded the pic. Azures have this silky type of mycelium that looks a little like that mold dish.

You know I am watching how this elaborates Mateo....
I started a new Azure strain from a print sent to me from Canada recently, but I did not see the folding that Terry pointed out.

Here is good pic of the mycelium folding I was talking about.
Microsporum canis
The amount of folding is quite variable. There may be just a little of it, which shows as radial lines, or a lot, which gets convoluted at the center.

Thanx o master, this is more the type of growth I'm seeing in my dish. I started over with a new print all the way from cape town and if I'm not mistaken its a wild cube that's been cleaned up. I knocked up some dishes on Monday with the Cape Town MS cube, how long on average will it take before I see growth on the agar

It was your old agar you were seeing this folded growth on, not your new cubes, right?Good thing you got rid of it. It was likely one of the Trichophyton or Microsporum fungi. These cause ringworm in humans!
As for when you'll see growth, I don't know. I know very little about cubes. Others here have the expertise to provide you with answers.

This is a second transfer, the culture was started from a fresh gill fragment from this beautiful species which unfortunately produces very few spores and almost non existent prints, all attempts to start cultures from these very faint prints have failed, some of the mycelium here is a clone, some is from the very few spores present on the gill fragment, I also have some cultures from the stipe tissue, there seems to be two types of mycelium, one is very cottony, the other is linear. In the image you can also see what I suspect is a bacterial contamination at the bottom of the image, this culture was sacrificed for the image, I have duplicates that are devoid of the contamination.
The mycelium is painfully slow, maybe 10mm in three weeks.

A bit of a trashy photo, but still got some action after three months of waiting for germination. Lactarius fragilis from "Suchen" http://mushroomobserver.org/85991?q=d8vN

Is there a way to get spores from picked mushrooms onto agar media without putting a piece of the mushroom in the dish, because it seems like even the smallest piece infects the grow.

Can anyone confirm the pictures below is how Panaeolus mycelium should look like? My petri dish looks exactly the same but it's growing a mycelium-like contamination as well which gave me doubts. The Pan. mycelium is extremely thin. It seems to be most visible when light reflects on it, like in the second picture in the post below. Also, some hyphae are pointing upwards into the air, but not extreme. It has a normal growth rate.
