which i do because no cactus is worth too much money.

I need to start from seed because the ones I bought that were degrafted astros of mine are all dying on me with orange rot First it was my Astrophytum Myriostigma and now my Super Kabuto has also suffered the same fate. The small roots and deeper potting of the cactus are probably the reason for this. Hopefully 1 of my 5 attempted areola grafts will take hold. I have some seeds coming in so at least I'll soon replace them.

that rot sucks but i dont think it is from being degrafted. thats all i am saying.
i have some very healthy and degrafted plants.
look at my loph. degrafted 4 and a half years ago.

I don't blame it on them being degrafted I blame it on planting the body below the soil line similar to the way we do columnar cacti. I'm sure you just put your lopho on top of the soil and allowed the roots to drop and grow. However this cactus was long so the original owner planted it deep. I kept the soil line where they left theirs due to the skin being dead so it is partly my fault.
Do you think its from over-watering or high humidity? My soil drys within a day but I might have over-watered it since it's roots were not as large as they should be. Someone said it may be bacterial but IDK.

i'd go with over watering and/or humidity. i see that type of rot. i think most rot problems is from over water or humidity or a combination of the two. humidity seems to play a huge factor in rot. where i live the humidity is extremely high and if i'm not really careful stuff rots so easy

Oh my god it's full of vascular connections...
Here is a link to an awesome animated series of MRI scans of an unidentified small cactus: hxxp://insideinsides.blogspot.co.uk/2012/09/small-cactus.html
I wonder what it is. Some shots make me think Astro, but he says it had spines so maybe something like Lobivia or an outside chance at A. capricorne? Not really sure. Cool stuff nonetheless.

Those are Trichocereus Peruvianus and the ayachuco and puquio varieties are they locals. The color on the right one looks amazing I love that green-blue shade.

I have cuttings from both of those mothers. They are Pedros. I really like them a lot. Mine look a little different from your cuts. Your's were probably grown in pots in a cooler climate with more filtered sunlight. I should go take some pictures. Some arios are starting to flower.
