nutrient laden silica gel as agar substitute?

since silica gel has such a high surface area and can absord a lot of water, I suppose nutrients could be dissolved in water and then the silica gel used as an agar substitute? perhaps with the addition of gentamycin sulphate diluted in the water there may be zero pressure cooking required?

Does silica gel absorb nutrients is the real question? I was under the impression it just absorbed water.

I don't understand why holding a lot of water and nutrients is desirable. Why would pressure cooking not be required? And adding gentamycin sulphate will not kill any mold contaminants. It won't even kill all bacterial contaminants.

m maybe it can absorb diluted nutrients?
i donno, it was just a thought... guess you can't pressure cook sodium silicate, haha
