my first grow attemps went just fine. i just did it all in my bedroom, used lysol in the air, and opened my uncultivated tubs to work with them. when i look back on it, i wonder how it even worked without getting contamination.
today, i have a closet i use exclusivly for my mushroom growing. i spray it all down with pure alcohol, spray and wipe off all my equipment with pure alcohol, use plastic sheets to cover the area i work in, wear gloves, a dust mask, etc. I'm more anal retentive now than ever, but the last 6 grow attemps fail.
I wondered if lysol isn;t the way to go, or maybe i was just lucky.
any of you have any suggestions as to what i can do to make my sterilization go a lot better?

Maybe your closet is moldy? You say you use the closet exclusively for growing, but maybe the walls are slightly moldy or something if it an old house. I live in the city and row houses are often kinda dank and nasty. Is the closet in the same house as the bedroom you mentioned where everything was ok? What kindof contam are you getting, maybe you can narrow it down by type and then figure out whether it is food related or wood mold, etc. Just trying to give you some places to start...

the mold is trich, and i'm getting it in my rye grain. I'm only using a small shelf. about 3 cubic feet of space. i wipe it all down with alcohol, and cover the opening with three sheets of plastic, leaving two slots that i can put my gloved hands into.
In a tek i read (wbs, which i think i'm going to try now) it said to turn the jars open a quarter of a turn. i haven't been doing that. does that help sterilization by allowing hot air in faster, or is that just to release pressure?
i also think i'm going back to lysol, but i'm not sure that was the problem. is there anything you guys do to sterilize that i am not doing?
