Gymnopilus luteoviridis? * 1
    #17000478 - 10/09/12 07:09 PM (11 years, 4 months ago)

Habitat: SWFL state park located in an oak/hardwood hammock with sabals scattered around as well.

Gills: Pictured below...

Wood: Unknown dead stump (been dead for years).

Spore print color: Light brown/reddish (field observation)

Bruising: Didn't pick but can go pick them all tomorrow morning.

Didn't figure out the identification until I went on google and mushroomobserver... but not quite sure.

Bloodworm... I hope you see this first

it's close.
that's for sure.
i have been finding these for the past few months.
they start out with dark red/pink hairs on the cap...

i was actually looking at Hesler today and think they might be close to G. peliolepis.

i am confident these are G. luteoviridis due to the bluing pins.
look for that...

nice find man!!

collect them please.

:aliendance:
peace and love

PURDY!

Put them on mushroomobserver! That would be great. Also, you should return every couple days and rephotograph the pins.

Sweet, thanks a lot guys! I'm gonna go back tomorrow, take more pictures, pick, spore print them as sterile as possible, etc.

I'll just use one of the microscopes at school to take photos of the spores.

Oh, and :pm: me if you would like a print... I'm going to have more than I need!

Thanks again

Update.

Any tips on printing these? I've never printed gyms before... I'm thinking that since they're older (should've picked 'em yesterday), perhaps letting them print for 16-24 hours is best.

Timer is going off on PC atm- foil is sterile and ready to go. I'm doing these just like I do my super sterile indoor-grown prints, so they'll be very clean and professional.

Any printing tips would help though!

Cheers

Easiest genus to print evar. Just set them under a humidity dome and they will make everything nice and orange. I always print for 24 hrs, no matter what I'm printing.

I always get issues when i print on foil in glass humidity domes, all the humidity gathers on the foil and condensate there and I end up with a wet print, any way to avoid this, I use paper cups for the dome to take in some of the moisture but it seems to dy the mushroom also...

Wedge something under the glass and stick a sheet of paper towel on the caps. Some people like to lift the cap off of the foil by setting it on two pencils.

I don't really worry about messy looking prints. I probably should, its not very polite to cultivators.

Hmm at that end I might just stick with the old paper cup, seems a bit easier for smaller specimens, but larger ones I will have to consider this my new plan.

Thanks for the quick responses Gravija and Joust,

Here's what I did (this is 5 hours since I started the very sterile printing procedure):

The prints (if you look closely) are already turning out very dark. I'm thinking I can get away with printing these for less than 12 hours since they were 3-4 days mature when I found them. The last thing I want is slimy, decomposing caps ruining my prints...

This picture is from the day before I collected them:

Any tips/concerns/comments/critiques would be well appreciated...

Thanks again,

ffg

I always throw my prints (once sealed) into a desiccant chamber for a lil while... usually, I use leftover, unused petris to get prints too, and when the condensation is gone/they dry up completely, I take everything out of the chamber. The purpose of that is to use them as "indicators" for the sealed up foil prints that you cannot see. The petris then become wall art in my apartment, and although they are sterile enough to cultivate from, I like my growing art project much better:tongue:

I'll PM everyone that wanted one Friday or this weekend (very busy with school the next two days)... if anyone else wants one :pm: me, I'd be more than happy to send one your way too:wink:

I'm definitely gonna seal these up before I go to sleep tonight... they're great looking prints so far.

cheers
