Possible chanterelle, Need ID

Found it growing at the base of what i think was a pine tree, among all the dead needles. It was growing in a small scattered group of all the same colors, the smaller younger ones weren't as cone shaped though, they were more flat and a brighter yellow. The couple larger/older ones were a bit more orangish and had a darker tan shade in the very center of the cap. Bugs got to it a little bit and i noticed it had turned a reddish brown color where it had bruised and even some black spots where it had begun to rot. Slight peppery smell but not really anything sweet or apricot like. The inside was a creamy white in the very middle. The stem at the base of it seemed to be hollow and was more brown and seemed to turn browner after brusing. Which worries me because i dont think the bottom stem of a chanti is not suppose to be brown but the mushroom was a bit water logged/beat up/eaten. Any help/advice? I only found one mature one that i'm not going to eat anyways due to its condition. Just want to ID it so i can go back there and find more someday.

Looks like Hygrophoropsis aurantiaca. It's hard to tell from those photos. Could you take them again and make sure to focus on the gills?

Here are some more pictures sorry about the quality.

I'm kinda thinking its not a chant now partly because of the gills but mostly because the stem looks just like the Hygrophoropsis aurantiaca.

Thanks for the quick replies guys, i was really hoping because i found some nice turkey tail, shaggy manes, puffballs, and even some lady slippers. Chanti's would've been the icing on the cake since i'm chef, oh well there's always next time. Was really looking for morels anyways.

It's not the season for morels (unless you're in Mexico). You want to start looking say this coming March. However, there are chants making a last dash for reproduction right now.
