I have a rather large 2'X4' casing that has some white eruptions tunring green as it goes. I cut out spots and salted the areas. I stll see new spots coming up. It has some really lovely pins forming.
Heres what I dont understand. I know the case is done for, but can I lay this in an outdoor bed and fruit it or not?
Some say sure...do it and eat em.... Others say dont. Im very confused. if outdoors takes care of the contam then why be worried to eat it. I have another old bed here that is producing nicely that I made with some contamed jars. Im assuming I wouldnt want to eat those either? Thats a problem as I already gave some away. This contam thing has prompted me to abruptly give this hobby the boot. This is bloody crazy. I dont want to hurt anyone.
Should I put this big casing into n outdoor bed or just fire it in the bushes?
Scrape the casing layer (if any) and clean the mycelium very well, dunking in h2o2:h2o solution is a good idea prior making the outdoor bed. Depending on the contaminant, a natural environment usually weakens the contaminant and promotes more healthy mycelium growth. So if anything grows it should be ok to consume but you've got to clean the mycelium very well to not risk much.
