Cool mist preventing pins?
    #1699131 - 07/09/03 08:51 AM (21 years, 6 months ago)

My cousin dunked a batch of PF cakes (Koh Samui Strain) and put them in a terr. Perlite is used for humidity and a cool mist runs 24/7 for air exchage. The temp stays around 74 and the humidity around 90. The cakes will not pin. Every time my cousin dunks cakes he gets pins in at least 5 days, but not this time. The cakes are injected with water every two days, as the inner resevior tek says. There are white bumps on the tops of some of the cakes, especially near the injection site. I thought these were hymphal knots, but they have been there for 4 days with no pins forming. Does anyone know why the cakes won't pin?

humidity around 90.

Cakes are happiest near 100% humidity. Try cutting back on the air exchange a bit and letting the perlite maintain the humidity.

So my cos. should turn the cool mist off? That would probably raise the humidity to near 100. But, Shroomgod's humidifier tek says to leave it running.

Put it on a timer. Play around with the duty-cycle until you get a good compromise between high humidity and air exchange.

ShroomGod's Tek is really best suited for casing which require a lot lower rH then cakes. So in order for your project to be successful you'll need to apply some sort of casing to the cakes.

Also ShroomGod was growing Oyster mushroom which may have different growth parameters then what your growing so the timer isn't a bad idea either.

Maybe I should turn the cool mist on for a few mins at a time. How long should I leave it on to get rid of all the CO2? How often should I do this?
