Polyfill

Can I gank some polyfill from my pillow at home? I dont see why not, as the stuff you buy at the stores is the same as in your pillows right?
sorry for the dumb question, but it would help me to know.

Yes, you can use poly-fil from your pillow but why ruin a good pillow when it is a dollar for a big bag.

thanks kramer, I went to home depot and they only had tyvek in huge roles, some time I will dig up that thread about where to get free tyvek from and send off to all of them, the thread had like 10 people to get samples from. Please no one look it up for me, because I find if I want to do something I have to do it myself, and if one of yall look it up I will not do it and end up digging this thread up later to look at it ; )

Maybe its just my salamander, or his incubator conditions or whatever, but he's done several batches of wbs with tyvek on half of the jars and polyfill on the other half, and polyfill has always noticably out performed the tyvek. I don't know why but the polyfill jars always colonize faster. He's not even going to use tyvek on his next batch. It's too bad, cause it's so much easier to use. Polyfill is such a pain in the ass to get into all those little lid holes.

I wouldn't use polyfill from used pillows. It's likely to be chock full 'o contams.

If anyone has ever seen the special on the health channel, and saw the electron microscope pics of polyfill from pillows, they would be scared to sleep on that pillow to begin with. Bed mites are scary looking when they are the size of your tv screen. not to metion all the craps they have taken in those pillows. although i guess you could sterilize the polyfil first but i dont know. better safe than sorroy.

I love poly-fil. Yes, it can be a pain in the ass, but you get used to it. Once, you get your process down you will end up doing things like washing jars and replacing poly-fil while grain is simmering or draining. Plus, after a while you just become a machine. I've PCed too many jars in my day.

As for the stuff that lives in your pillows and what not, very scary. Try washing them once in a while.

for some reason i only hear polyfill or tyvek with seed or grain teks, can it be used with brf? i'd assume so, but so many people in here have funky reasons for things i thought i'd better ask.

Yeah, both work just great with BRF.
