I think Pholiota limonella. I have found them recently before the rain with scales, then after allot of rain look just like yours. The rain washes off the scales off the mushroom.

Oh my dear Lord, that IS a beech leaf. I just looked at it on the desktop ... Thanks for seeing what my iPad won't let me! And o that one, I think I'm off to bed (though my addiction to the shroomery makes that difficult, gives me withdrawals lol)

not gonna be able to make it back out today. have to go to work and have to take my laptop back to best buy - the damn solid state hard drive is toast. grr...

WTF? How in the Hell does a solid state drive fail? I thought they made magnetic drives look like turds.
