Cactus Gurus help required Plz.
    #16982556 - 10/07/12 08:23 AM (11 years, 5 months ago)

Pictured is my only Torch that made it through a major gnat problem when younger. He is 2 years old I missed a whole growing season outdoors as I was overseas. I've been back to take care of him this summer and placed him in a prime outdoor spot. well as you see the top is massive as the base is skinny. What do I need to do to get this guy right?? Thanks Guys     E

That's doing fine. The base, from seed, will always be skinnier than the top. Seedlings can often need help being propped up in some way after a few years. At repot time, go a bit deeper, or a thicker gravel collar to help with support.

Yes you can do that. Or a few nice size stones to help prop it up. The base will eventually cork over, and you can pot deeper.

I had a 2 footer from seed, it loved to lay over on its side
The base was remarkably flexible, and has toughened up enough this year to support all the new growth with no assistance.

not to hijack or anything, when you repot deeper, does it actually root from the sides or is it just a support thing?
