The Bluing Bolete [video]
    #1698631 - 07/09/03 04:32 AM (13 years, 5 months ago)

Turns blue... just snap and be amazed!

Gyroporus cyanescens

http://botit.botany.wisc.edu/toms_fungi/jul2003.html

Edible too!  :crazy2: One of the rare edible blue-bruising Boletes.

Anyone ever find one of these?

I am totally open to be corrected but I'm pretty damn sure that is an oxymoron!

Even the article concurs:
Quote:

Boletes have mushroom-like fruiting bodies, but have small pores on the undersurface instead of gills. Like gills, these pores are lined with basidia that produce basidiospores, the sexual spores of the Basidiomycota.

The only boletes I've found had red caps and yellow pores. Odd little fungi. That was a pretty cool link tho. THe coolest mushroom I've ever encountered was an Indigo.
I cooked it with some scrambled eggs.

Attn PWN hunters: If you should come across a bluing Psilocybe matching P. pellicolusa please smell it.
If you detect a scent reminiscent of Anethole (anise) please preserve a specimen or two for study and please PM me.

yep thats what made it even more confusing! the fact that most boletes have pores... the blueing reaction from boletes is fairly different to that from psilo's.. that is.... INSTANT bright blueing which slowly fades a little compared to the more gradual, permanent blueing i've found evident on psilo's
