the big one is another of those nasty smelly russulas and the little ones look like some sort of galerina.

you can't tell from the picture, but the gills almost have a lavender tint to them. i don't think these are going to drop any spores; they were a little dry when i found them.

i don't eat any mushroom, unless i am 110% percent sure i know that it is safe or i grew it myself. thanks for the advice, though. it is appreciated.

this mushroom had pinkish gills, though it is hard to tell from the pics. the print is solid black and very thick.

What kind of mushroom is that last one? I have those, or something similar, near my house.

This last one is from the genus Agaricus. Unfortunately, Agaricus is a difficult genus to identify to species in. Many of them are among the best edibles to be found, and many of them are poisonous. None are lethal, and none are active.

You need to actively bruise the inside of fresh Agaricus specimens to get the bruising reaction. Try scraping it with your knife edge.

The odor is also very important for identifying them.

Happy mushrooming!

unfortunately that mushroom has been thrown away. i found it on the 3rd or 4th. i cut it in half and i didn't notice any bruising. i found the Chlorophyllum molybdites the same day or the day after that mushroom and noted that they smelled extremely similar.

today's finds:

the small one:

i think the small one and this one are the same species:

this is the same species that is in my last post. the first pic in this post shows the lavender ring at the edge of the cap much better. the gills are the same color as that ring, but it has proven hard to get a true-to-color picture of them.

this season's first puffball:

all but the puffball are currently in the printing process. if anyone ever wants spores from the mushrooms in this thread, pm me. i have kept many of the prints from the mushrooms that dropped spores.

i would really like an id on this one if anyone knows what it is.

i found this mushroom next to a creek, growing out of the side of a fallen tree. it had an extremely dense (almost wood-like), smooth white stem. the stem was about 3 inches long. i didn't get the whole stem, because it would not let go of the tree. it took three firm tugs, before the stem broke at the base.

the cap is smooth, with no raised scales. it is about 4" in diameter. those brown spots on the cap rub off. the cap feels moist to the touch.

the mushroom didn't have much taste to it, but i did notice a slight mushroomy smell when i chewed on it. i thought it had more of a a freshly cut cucumber smell when i crushed it up, though.

the gills are not attached.

the sporeprint was a rusty color when wet, but after it dried it had a lighter color.

i pulled one of those off the tree. they were pretty tough and woodlike and had a fibrous inside. conclusion: Phellinus pomaceus

i found these while out golfing.

i believe the one on the bottom left is amanita farinosa. it was growing under a pine tree. it left white "powder" on everything it touched.

more pictures will be added tomorrow.

i found a lot of mushrooms out on my hikes today. unfortunately, my camera's batteries were dead. so, no pics from the hike. i brought a few mushrooms home. from left to right: ?, amanita. ?, and chantrelles. those chantrelles and amanitas were growing all over the place.

Do the suspect chanterelles have veins, instead of gills?
