this is what the catholic church says "To baptize either an unwilling adult or somebody else’s child against the wishes of the parents is an act of spiritual kidnapping that violates nature and is therefore invalid according to the Church"

You can't cater to religious beliefs and expect them to leave religion alone just because you gave in and baptized a child. Put your foot down, make your intentions known, and nip this in the bud.

Trust me, being raised christian, a dunk in water will not make a difference. These people are so thick-skinned for their beliefs nothing will stop them from saving your child from eternal flames and screaming demons picking at his soul.
OP im going through the same thing with my child. It started with me not wanting him to get circumcised, i let that go now im getting ready for the baptism. It will never end, just make sure you let your child no whats really going on, when he/she is ready.

It helps OP's cause though to stop this before it happens. If they cave on this, they're more likely to cave on sending the child to church groups, preachings, etc.
This is the very first step to making it known that you do NOT support indoctrination. How ass backwards is it to baptize a child then refuse further preachings? Stick to your guns, OP. Stick to them from the very start.

i was just thinking about this yesterday or the day before, and for some reason I made a point of remembering that I'd not baptize my child, just to prove that I don't put up with bullshit and I refuse to expose my impressionable child to the ignorance of faith

I'd like to add I'm not trying to be an authority here, but given the context of the OP, they clearly don't want their child going down this route, and the defense starts right here.

But is it really worth it to the OP? Does he not want the support of his family or does he want to stand up and make a difference?
We all know the correct answer in our heart, but is it logically the right choice? Its on OP to answer that.

So, this is purely the grandparents' insistence, and not a difference between the parents?

Personally, I wouldn't let peer pressure determine how I raise my child. I wouldn't use my child as a means to satisfy my family while going against my beliefs. I realize that this could 100% lead to ostracization but I'd rather raise my child as I see fit than cave to pressure from delusional people.
This is how religion spreads. Fear and lies.
Fear from being alienated, pressure to conform, and lying to keep people happy. It's deceitful and I don't think it's ok.

I agree. Since she apparently feels strongly that it's the wrong thing to do, she should go with her gut. If she was just indifferent to the whole thing then it would be a different situation. Either way though it shouldn't be determined by outside pressure, it should be purely the parents' decision.

I remember the Count Me Out movement happening here some time ago, where you could get your name removed from the church's register.
One of the possible consequences was that you could not be buried in a graveyard. No secular burial grounds exist here.

And a mother will adopt the religion of her country. Usually.
