How is this casing going? *Pictures*
    #1690499 - 07/06/03 03:38 PM (21 years, 6 months ago)

Hey, I found this casing sitting in a terrarium, deep in the forest.

A note from the grower was left next to it.  He was saying that this is his fourth casing attempt and this one seems to work, finally.

The casing is sitting in a 7" by 4" alluminium pan and is made of only one BRF crumbled cake with a thin casing layer of coco coir/verm.

There is around 100 pins showing and most of em are in clusters.  They don't seem to be growing very fast.  Tallest pins are around 1 inch long.  They are quite thin compared to pins he gets from cakes.

Strain is either Tapalpas or Koh Samuis.

Have a look! Any comments would be appreciated.

I don't know how to make thumbnails, sorry.

  Thanks!

Air exchange was neglected during the last couple days. In fact, this casing never had a lot of air exchange because the grower was sure this casing was going to contaminate. (He saw a lot of knots starting to grow in circles and thought this was cobweb or something).

Now, air exchange will be 2-3 times a days.

Keep exchanging that bitch. YOu have a huge number of pins for one PF cake, the reason they are not as beefy is because they are not Koh Samui, those look much more like Talpalpas to me due to the thin stems, you can never really tell though. Anyways....one cake is a pretty small substrate layer for a casing like that, that's probably why the mushrooms won't get massive, but there sure are alot of theM!!

eh... the lack of air is definitely showing... get some serious fresh air going to those...

and i hate to be a naysayer... but they look a little abort-ish.

good luck!

Good. I'll be fanning like a freak and hope for the best.

I'll post some more pics if it turns great.

And if it turns bad, I'll post some more pics.

I agree mushmaster, it immediatley looked like lack of air. The lack of substrate will also hinder their size. Don't mean to burst your bubble but you will be lucky if even half of those make it.

As for contaminants, they love stagnant air.

"Strain is either Tapalpas or Koh Samuis"
" BRF crumbled cake with a thin casing layer of coco coir/verm"

I don't mean to be an ass but the information is there if you'd just take the time to look.

48 hours later and a lot of fanning.  Around 15 pins grew significantly taller. Around 10 caps turned blackish and must be cut.

This casing won't produce big shrooms, that's for sure!
