pink mold problems...UPDATE

so a few weeks ago i knocked up some jars and every one of them developed pink mold within the first week. so this time around i tried to be more sterile than last (even though i am usually pretty good about it). so i cleaned my workspace with bleach, lysoled, etc..cleaned the jars and the pot i used up and boiled my jars for 1.5 hours with brf and verm. 3 days into incubation i checked my new batch and what do i find? more pink mold forming, so now i am thinking that maybe my syringes were is contamed? i used a different incubator set up this time around too, so it's not that either... anyone got any other suggestions? i'm stumped, and now i'm kinda doubting that is was the syringe because they both would have had to be contamed.... i had 6 syringes in my order, the first 3 i used were fine and i have one left.
1/5/06-i think i finally found the source of the pink mold! i was cleaning the shower the other day and i notice that it was forming on the bottom of the faucet..gross! and in a few other spots. so i cleaned the shit out of it with comet and bleach, and re-caulked the bathtub. now that there's no more sign on mold in my bathroom (which is very close to the stove where i sterilize my jars) i am going to get some new verm and brf and try again with my last syringe. hopefully everything goes smoothly this time around.

what i have experienced is that the more you check em the faster they will get contamed because everytime you check em all the bateria from the air can get in....and it could be the syringe make a liquid culture and find out..how much cc's are you inncoing per jar?

3 ccs per jar i believe, my bf inncoulated them. and i only checked them once, there was a lot of mycelium growth but it was covered in pink. i've been thinking about trying a LC instead of doing jars with my last syringe.

if there was a contam in my verm or brf could it have survived boiling in the jars? i'm really stumped this time, i usually have no problems with colonizing, i usually crash and burn during fruiting....

boiling them, i don't have a pc yet. i've boiled jars in the past and it worked pretty well.

In times like this i just throw out the syringe
LC sounds like a great idea if you want to not buy more syringes for a while, also gives the mushroom a better chance to colonize the sub before somethin else does
What are you using for filter? are you using the dry verm layer ?

i was using a coffee filter for a filter over the tops. my jars were verm and brf, and i guess i can't say i've heard of using a dry verm layer besides for casing...is the the dry layer for jars?? would it be possible for contams like lipstick mold to survive through boiling the jars? my verm and brf have been around my house for the last couple months, i was thinkin maybe that's where the contam lies, which is why i want to try a lc. i just have to study up on it..
i did notice some of my jars had a little rust on the covers, nothing that was directly exposed to the contents of the jar but i figured that might be a factor too.

Where are you storing your syringes? In a dirty refrigerator?

Yeah. But i dont take the caps off and leave them sitting on the shelf or anything. I have never taken the caps off the other two syringes plus there in a zip lock bag in a little box. Is that not a good way of storing them?

I no longer store my syringes in my fridge. I don't feel good about it. I store them in a dark cool closet, and try to use them as fresh as possible. Some bacteria is actually mobile(motile?) and I wonder if it is actually capable of making its way to places it shouldn't.

I'm forced to believe it's the syringe too. If it was a problem with your jars themselves it wouldn't be just pink mold you'd be running into. There's no reason other contaminants wouldn't also be infecting your jars. In the making of a syringe though because spores and bacteria tend to move in clusters you can easily contaminate a syringe or even multiple syringes depending on how they're made with a single contaminant.
Instead of an LC you might consider a agar culture. Then you'd have the option of creating a clean culture by transferring mycelium away from the contamination in case you needed it.
