Indirect sunlight or a light bulb?

I can't make up my mind. Has anyone out their experimented with these? If so, how were your results? If I was to go with the light bulb, what would be the best type of bulb to buy?

I've heard both work. Apparently you need to use the blue shaded compact flourescent lightbulbs. I just use my incandescent lights in my room, dont change anything.

Can't knock one over the other. I couple both artificial light with indirect, natural sunlight (from a window sill) during fruiting. When purchasing a light bulb, get a compact flourescent light bulb in the 6500K range. Myce

I can't seem to find a bulb around 6500k. The highest I was able to find was 5500k.

6500k should be easy to find. They are also typically called daylight bulbs as they look more like natural sunlight than 3500k bulbs.
You'll do fine with the 5500k, but if you can find them use 6500k (walmart/home depot/etc should have them)

Quite a bit cheaper to use a window. Great for small grows. I use it on my monotub, works fine.

I live in a studio apartment which has a giant window. I'm just worried that it'll get more direct sunlight than indirect. I would probably have to move it around a lot, and I'm worried that my grow will get contaminated.

My back window has an overhang, and a big tree 10 ft away. I just set it under the window and it gets indirect all day.
What you could do is set it on a table where it is window hight. Then you can tape a piece of paper (or a couple) to the side of the tub that is facing the window. It should still get indirect light from the top and other sides this way.

How about tin foil covering the celing.. and a blue light in one of those tall lamps that face the celing?

Sunlight is fine. You don't want them under direct intense light all day, but by a window is ok. Put up a little shade if yo are worried, tehre still will be plenty of light.

I have a couple dumb questions about the whole sunlight thing:
If I set my terrarium by the window sill (faces West) that will receive about 6 hours of sunlight a day, would this be sufficient?
Does the indirect sunlight penetrate (yes penetrate) both the glass from the window and the plastic of the terrarium or is it wise to lift the lid?
Would it be a good idea to supplement with a bulb as well?

The thing to worry about with a west window is if the sunlight is intense enough to dry out your terrarium. If so, put a shear curtain over part of the window and/or mist more often. Use a clear terrarium, but you don't need to run it with the lid off. Most light comes in through the sides anyway.

Appreciate it. Thanks for the article. If I end up going with the bulb I'll be sure follow those specifications.
Not to insult your intelligence, but would 5-6 hours in the indirect sunlight be more than enough though then for a West window?
Or is 12 hours with an artificial bulb seem like a better route to go?
