    #1696153 - 07/08/03 12:52 PM (13 years, 8 months ago)

What tastey edibles can be found in northeast Illinois? Its been raining like a son of a bitch here and the humidity is been high. Where do you start to look? Can you find morels?? What other species taste pretty good and can be found here? Been all over the FAQ but want a hands on report. Thanks!

I dont live there, or even close, but I could imagine that you could find some pretty tastey edibles.

I'd check in the forests. Maybe look for an oak forest. You're bound to find something there. Maybe some bolete's...!

I think its a little too late for Morels, but, I bet you could have foudn them during the spring if you looked hard enough.

This time of year you should be able to find boletes, Agaricus, oysters, chanterelles should be starting soon.

The best advice in general is, if you want to find mushrooms (or know what mushrooms are up) go out and look.

Happy mushrooming!

Morels are over for majority of the US unless you reside in a place of very high elevation. Morels are strictly spring fruiters, they never appear in summer or fall. If I was you, I'd read up on the Chanterelle family and the different species of them in your area, they are a very tasty mushroom that is currently in season or about to be in season depending on your location in the US. Maybe look for some oyster mushrooms, some boletes, etc...
