here's a picture of one of my friend's fruting cakes.
Can you see the dark spots on the cap? He'd like to know if this is normal. Also. He'd like to know if it would be alright to leave this most mature shroom connected to the cake until the other's have caught up and are ready to harvest...

you're fine. pick the shroom right as the viel is tearing. dont wait for the others to catch up. pick shrooms individually when they are ready to be picked, not together.

It depends - if your aborts are getting funky then yeah try to pick it all. But if you have like one or two crazy ass shrooms growing faster than all the others you can just pick the two.

If you have a fully opened cap, and other mushrooms that haven't even opened yet, then pick the ones that are finished, otherwise you could end up with rotting mushrooms. As to picking them all at once, my guess is because this reduces any chances for contams...

the reason people say you should pick all fruits at once is because it lets the cake regroup and make ready for another flush, i don't think pulling off the two huge units will harm anything though, my friends would do it like you say, then again, they do dumb shit sometimes.

make sure it isn't raining inside of your terrarium, black spots are usually caused by direct contact with moisture, don't fret though. and pick as they mature.

Looking great bro! You can let one open cap wider and make a print of it while collect the others when veils will just brake. So you can pick them at the same time. Tell your frind to dose carefully and nice trip!

hey guys, thanks for the info...my buddy just phoned and said this largest mushroom (in the pic above) opened it's veil when he was at work today. As you can see, two others are connected at the stem. What do you think about this? Pick all three of them?

Also, he doesn't have a food dehydrator yet...didn't expect them so soon, i guess. How long will a couple of these last in the fridge contained in a paper sack?
