reviving an aging casing
    #1695431 - 07/08/03 02:36 AM (21 years, 6 months ago)

my buddy wants to revive his casing so it gets more flushes, was thinking of adding some straw and compost to it, should he crumble the casing and mix it with comopst and straw, or add the compost and straw to the sides and sprinkle it on top?

Mist it, to ensure it doesn't dry out, that's about all you can do. I suppose adding new layers of casing could provide you with an additional flushing, but I don't think it's worth the hassle. When you're casing stops producing shrooms, tuck it in a shallow grave on a shady, humid spot in your (parents') garden. It might form a nice outdoor patch. The freed indoor space can be used for fresh casing which will produce much more than wasted/revived ones.
