I think Im screwed
    #1695054 - 07/07/03 11:49 PM (20 years, 9 months ago)

So like allways, I mess something up. When i prepared my PF style jars i packed down the substrate. Not like very hard, but it SURE wasent loose in there. To get an idea of how tight it was, I filled ONLY 11 jars( I filled them how full they are suposed to be filled, leaving room for verm seal) with 12 jars worth of substrate. WIll this be a problem? Im sure it will...

The fact that they are packed is not great, can you post a pic? As long as you still have decent sized air pockets you should be fine, though.

My friend usually leaves about 1 cm at the top for a verm seal.

Why not dump everything out into a big bowl and refill the jars, btw? It takes all of ten minutes to do 12 jars.

45 Minutes should be fine, although hour is safer.  Make sure to followup on this, I'm curious to know whether your jars grow anything other than green stuff

You should be fine, though, probably just paranoid of blowing up your kitchen.

More like paranoid of blowing up my room : 0 Anyways, I will follow up on it, but Im goona innoc tommorow(with self made syringes(first time doing it, I doubt they are sterile) and then im going out of town for 2 weeks on friday... so when I come back, I will find this and bump it to let ya know how the packed jars that were sterilized by someone who doesent know how to do it, and not for the length of time needed, and then innoced with probally unsterile spores... went.

lol 2Exp, at least next time you will know what not to do - although I'm not saying this time will fail, I know that my friend's first time doing PF-TEK he messed up like three things (like he boiled the jars for 4 hours instead of 1, not in PC, in a Pot) and everything turned out fine...

shit, even 30 minutes @ 15psi is fine. Packing the substrate in isn't a good thing but like already meantioned as long as you have some air pockets you should be fine...your mycelium might grow on the slow side but oh well.

One question though....what's stopping you from going out and buying 12 more jars, some more BRF and verm and doing it over? It seems kinda stupid if your that concerned about it.

they should be ok but i think they will take alot longer to colonize due to small/no air pockets

i just recentley inoc'ed my first ever pf brf/verm jar 22 days ago and i packed it as well, just a tap or two down on the table. it's growing well, just the bottom is real slow due to the compressed substrate i suppose. it doesn't look like the pics i'm used to seeing where half the bottom colonizes with the sides. but it's definitely healthy! it's only has about 5% more to colonize. next time (as i cold shock this jar) i'm not going to pack(tap on table) at all and see how things go.

Packing the substrate was good practice some time ago, and it would colonize perfectly. However, you will find that if you don't pack the substrate, the jars will colonize faster, thus reducing the risk of contams. So you're pretty safe, but I would advise not to pack the substrate next time.
