Pressure Cooker Woes :(
    #1693962 - 07/07/03 05:51 PM (20 years, 6 months ago)

Afoaf got all birdseed jars ready, tried his pressure cooker, and the damn thing won't increase on the gauge. Its a presto model.

Water is coming out in some places around the lid and steam is venting, but all we have is a lid, the pot, and this small little weight thing to cover one of the steam holes.

Can somebody enlighten me on the problem here? do I need new seals or something? New to the PC world and need this resolved before the jars go bad.

is it used or new,put some vegie oil on the seal and make sure that the lid is on the right way.try this when it starts to boil hold the lid down on the pot that will help it seal, sometimes form expaneding and contracting used pc's can be a bitch, they just get worn out man.

thank you.

The pressure guage still isn't working though. Is there any way I can fix it or tell when it's reached the PSI?

if excessive steam is escaping the sides this prevents the pressure build up. Try stretching the gasket a bit with your hands. Take it out of the inside of the cooker. My friends did this and it took 60 min for the cooker to just heel itself and start building up pressure.

Vegetable oil will make the gasket brittle. Don?t use it.
