Any "proof" that there is a chance of staying stuck in a trip even with a history of family mental illness hasn't really been backed up, as not nearly enough research has been performed to determine this.

Yeah,according to propaganda you can. According to science, their is no reported cases of being stuck or scientific evidence saying you can be.

I think if you've done enough psychedelics then your probably gonna have a mildly psychedelic life. Not saying that will last forewver. It all depends on how deep you go really

Not if you take anywhere near a normal dose, atleast thats whats believed.
Dont worry about it hehe, if its even possible it would be extremely fucking unlikely. They would probably give you anti-psyco meds which would make you 'normal' anyways.

This is only what I was told, could be true, could be a lie, so don't take it as facts.
A friend of the family many years ago ingested mushrooms. For one reason or another he had to go to and was committed to an asylum because of these. Whether they triggered an underlying mental disorder or permantly fried his brain is unknown to me.
This is the only story like that I have heard. I do believe it's possible they could mentally "break" someone, but as said before, the chemicals leave your body, so you wouldn't be tripping forever, but it could very well mentally alter you.

Like somebody said above, it is a temporary disturbance of normal neurotransmitter levels. There is nothing about mushrooms that could cause a longterm change in functioning. This is for normal use though. I think some people that overuse psychedelics for many years end up a little bit loose in the head. Not necessarily crazy just a bit strange.

Summary:
1. No, you can't trip forever. Can't happen.
2. Underlying conditions can arise. This doesn't mean that a 100% normal person will just develop a mental disorder. If there is an underlying condition, some evidence will probably have shown itself previously.
3. A strong trip will change your perception on the world. Possibly your mental state also. I do know a few people who are not the same after an extremely strong/bad trip. They are NOT permanently tripping. They are a little slow (compared to before) and have completely different values than before. Their thought process is hindered and a little scattered. They are not psychotic and are functional. Kind of broken versions of their old selves.
4. This is not common, but possible. Both were on EXTREMELY high doses of mushrooms. Both were young at the time (early highschool).
