Differences in wet weight vs dry weight
    #1693390 - 07/07/03 04:28 PM (13 years, 10 months ago)

The standard ratio of wet weight vs dry is 10:1 from what Carl has learned since he started cultivating, but his mushrooms consistently dry down to less than 10% of their wet weight. He knows that the 90% water estimate is just that, an estimate, but wonders why his shrooms usually seem to be 93-95% water. Anyone have any ideas?

Maybe your conditions are not 100% favorable and your shrooms are coming out more hollow and weak - but this is kinda a minorly educated guess. Are you sure that during drying a lot of vermiculite or casing layer gets unstuck from the shrooms, and you had previously weighed the wet ones with all that crap stuck to them?

some strains vary in density.

even flush to flush, crops can vary.

I know this one guy who said that
cambodians can be the worst...only
5-8% dry matter, while koh samui
and A Strain (not mexicana) can be
the best with upwards of 10-14%.
