Sirius In Sight July 23rd
    #1693288 - 07/07/03 03:53 PM (13 years, 5 months ago)

The star Sirius will be visible from earth on July 23rd. Some suspect that human life was planted on earth by inhabitants of the Sirius solar system. Remember the Starseed transmissions that Tim Leary says to have encountered?

Anyway happy July 23rd especially for me just turning 23 in 2003.

Are you familiar with the constellation Orion? It's one of the best known.

If you are, and if you're in the northern hemisphere, follow the line of Orion's belt stars to the lower left. Sirius is the bright blue white star they point toward. It's the brightest star in the sky (other than the Sun).

July 23 is about the date that Sirius should be in solar conjunction.

Thanks for the info. I didn't know where to look myself. I also didn't realize it was visible besides July 23.

Supposedly, people knew about Sirius before the invention of telescopes. Which is interesting seeing how incredibly far away it is. All my info comes from Robert Anton Wilson's book "Cosmic Trigger 1".

As a thought, July 23, when it's in solar conjunction, is actually the day it's least visible.

According to ancient Roman tradition, the dog days of summer are the 20 days before and after the solar conjuction of Sirius (July 3 - August 11). They believed that it was hot because the heat from Sirius was added to the heat from the Sun then.

Incidentally, although Sirius is indeed a great distance away, it is also one of the closest stars to us - one of the main reasons it appears so bright in the sky.

The people who supposedly knew about Sirius before the invention of telescopes are the Dogon tribe of Africa (near Timbuktu, Mali). In fact, there is little evidence they knew more than anybody else. Reverence for Sirius was widespread, and the Egyptians based their calendar on it. This page outlines some of the information.
