casing problem...need some help

first off, i'm growing Cambodian Cubensis from the Hawks Eye. i've been growing them for a couple months now, mostly cakes, but i thought i'd try out a casing. because i only had the supplies for cakes, i decided to just try the vermiculite casing. i didn't wanna go to advanced for my first casing. anyways, my problem is that anytime i take my casing out into the light it seems like my mushrooms die. my cakes have been doing fine, so its not like i have some mushroom killer floatin around in the air. i'll take them out to give them light and air flow and when i go to put them away i can see a significant difference in their health. they look like they start aborting. anyone have similar problems or ideas as to whats going wrong. it's discouraging me from doing another casing. my cakes were producing pretty well and they're a hell of alot easier to maintain.

prolonged exposure to direct sunlight will dry out your casing. Shrooms in nature usually grow in damp dark places. or in fields after a rain and it's all still gloomy from the clouds.
