Re: Sterilizing Aluminum Foil for Spore Printing Using Colloidal Silver [Re: LoLmart]

Heck IME foil inner side is almost sterile to begin with. One of the few freebies. Have never ever sterilized it for use as a hat and never seen a contam. Ymmv. Alcohol is not a sterilizing agent but close, provided you let it dry. Endospores of various genera  along with others can survive but IME as a beer brewer and amatuer mycologist, it in the end is all about inoculation ratioso You can be anal up the wazoo and try to knock up few pounds of grain with an immaculate spore syringe od 20 cc and fail. Meanwhile in nature one spore finds a piece of dung and does beautifully. Sometimes we think in terms of absolute  warfare when really we just need a big lead into halftime.

So ts a bit more complicated IME the asking if Al foil is sterile.Almost but not quite. Safety in numbers. Spacecraft is exceedingly high standard. Sort of like nine nines sterilization vs 99.5 which is good enough forwhat many do here.

aluminum foil from the factory is sterile.

Foil is only sterile until it touches the open air with happens very easily.

The box foil comes in would have to be sterile and its not...it's a box! lol

it's rolled up though.

spores and bacteria cannot get into the roll of foil

every sheet that you unroll is sterile.

unroll it in your glovebox.

The layers of tinfoil on the roll are not heat sealed in anyway. The box breathes and air definitely can get between the sheets on the roll

They are pretty clean i'm sure...but they are not TRULY sterile which means a lot
