You could probably do BRF tek in a shoe if you wanted but just why would you want to.

i don't think a petri dish would be anywhere near large enough. the yield  would be next to nothing i'd imagine. plus not sure how you'd get GE/FAE

You can't really make a "cake" inside a petri dish as its not deep enough.

However, many people substitute brf pancakes for agar and use them for isolating.

if you look at that thread you can see that he is using BRF+water, which would be like a pancake, instead of agar. now he isn't using real petri dishes, but if you were to use them most are only 15 mm high, which is no where near the depth you would want for a cake. also this method won't work with most plastic petri dishes because they do not hold up in a pressure cook because most aren't pp5. and unlike agar, you can not sterilize the BRF/water mixture in a separate bottle and then pour it into the plastic petri dish after sterilization because it becomes solid. so if you did want to do the "no-pour BRF pancake" instead of agar you would either need 4-8 oz pp5 tupperware containers or glass petri dishes.

but even if you did have glass petri dishes a BRF/verm mixture really wouldn't be... i guess the word i'm looking for is logical. and if you had the tupperware containers, well, then obviously that would work exactly like a mason jar and you could do a cake.

Why would you want to waste petris anyways?
You generally cant autoclave the plastic ones...
