Legally Blonde 2 - subversive!
    #1691295 - 07/06/03 11:17 PM (13 years, 6 months ago)

I was waiting for my wife to finish work, and LB2 was starting just about the time the movie I paid to see ended, so I snuck in and watched it. I wouldn't recommend actual money be laid out to avail yourself of the experience, but I thought it worth noting (given its target teenie audience) that it is surprisingly political and actually subversive.

The plot is centred around Reese's campaign to make testing cosmetics on animals illegal, and follows her crusade through DC. The central senator character is a double dealing cold hearted bitch who looks like Hillary, and trades her political voice for financial backing. Reese wins her first ally by recognizing that they share the same sorority. Of course justice finally prevails, but only after a "power to the people" segment which follows the injustices of political process.

The climactic speech is themed: "America, rise up, it's time you found your voice."

Now whether the teenies will actually catch on to this stuff is another story, but interesting nonetheless.

I wouldn't call that subversive, sounds pretty blatant to me. Maybe these dumbass careless kids will get more interested in politics.
