On average how many cc's of a spore syringe do you put in a quart jar of wbs?

i've been using one or so... germination has been taking a little long and is inconsistant... some jars never even grow.... maybe i should be using more. go for 2 cc's i say!

My friend Jerry agrees with Cosmo. A quart jar is large compared to the commonly used 1/2 pint. Usually 1cc is used for the smaller jar. If you are having problems with germination then your syringes must be a little weak, the spores may be partially viable (or not hydrated), or there is some other flaw in your process. Some strain also have difficulty finding properly compatable mates, leading to poor initial colonization. More spores help in this situation. Now, 4cc's is a lot of solution to be shooting into a jar as is 2cc's for the 1/2 pints (when using grains, PF style with verm will absorb more due to the vermiculite). Sometimes grain will absorb lots of water from solution, sometimes not.

The only drawbacks to adding more solution is:
1. You risk adding too much water, creating a standing pool (this may be absorbed if everything is good and sterile but can lead to conditions that bacteria favor).
2. If there is any bit of contamination in the syringe, you may introduce it to more jars than you want. I have had this happen once or twice; sometimes a contaminant will only hit a few jars, indicating to me that it is hiding in the syringe with the spores. These are usually the molds, bacteria in a syringe is different.
3. You have many individual entities of mycelium once germinated, therefore they are living separate instead of living as one as in a pure isolate would. Note: This may not necessarily be a bad thing, they will still live in harmony and the resulting "mycelium village" could produce more fruit than a single isolate (especially noted with some strains). But generally you would want a mated pair to get as much substrate as possible to create better fruits.

If you do end up shooting in too much, shake the jar up a few times during the first few days. This will help disperse the water around, allowing more kernels the opportunity to soak it in.
