CD recomendations
    #1690256 - 07/06/03 04:07 PM (14 years, 21 days ago)

Squarepusher - Selection Sixteen
Very trippy and intelligent electronic hip-hop / trance stuff.

Tortoise - TNT
Some nice mellow instrumental stuff. Hard to explain, some of it almost has a spanish feel to it but not in a cheesey way. Some very beautiful xylophone tracks.

wow my friend's sister recommended Tortoise to me just a couple days ago

Insert an "I think" mentally in front of eveything I say that seems sketchy, because I certainly don't KNOW much. Also; feel free to yell at me.
In addition: SHPONGLE

Here's a few I recently discovered:

The Ananda Shankar Experience - Walking On
Someone at the Shroomery recommended me this and I bought it off Ebay real cheap... I was NICELY surprised. I would describe it as indian space-funk rockadellia.  :nut:

John Frusciante - To Record Only Water For Ten Days
Guitarist for RHCP, his solo work is absolutely brilliant, I highly recommend it to anyone... he has a way of putting his spirit directly into what he does, it flows very well... I'm not surprised he has sun in Pisces, moon in Cancer (both water signs), same as Kurt Cobain..

Radiohead - Hail To The Thief
I'm sure most of you've heard this album... I never was a big Radiohead fan but it has grown on me! I really like the direction they are taking. Don't judge the album by their single, the whole album is great.

ok a couple more...

David Torn - Polytown
I mentioned this before but I will again. David Torn, Terry Bozzio, and Mick Karn. Fuckin awesome instrumental compilation. Has a trippy eastern feel to it. Bozzio is an amazing drummer. The whole album flows really well, it isn't 'showy' at all, Very groovey and haunting sounding.

Deftones - Deftones

Buckethead - Colma
Buckethead and Brain (drummer for primus) Flowing mellow guitar work over Brain's hip-hop beats. None of Buckethead's infamous guitar shredding. It flows really well and some of the tracks are downright beautiful.

Shpongle - Are You Shpongled?

A very well done trance/electronic album. Shpongle is the best electronic music you are likely to hear right now. If you dig this album, check out their 2nd masterpiece Tales of the Inexpressible I didn't think it was possible to top the first one but this album just goes beyond all your expectations and beyond all words. Truly some of the best music ever made.

Both of Boards Of Canada's CD's: Music Has A Right To Children and Geogaddi.
Such thought-provoking music. So much under the surface.
Obviously Tool-Lateralus.
I second Radiohead's new CD. I've been a fan and this one has grown so much, there's such diversity yet commonality. It's brilliant.
Biosphere - Kobresia Ambient natural beauty.
Sigur Ros - Agaetis Byrjun
the most ethereal, eclectic, heavenly music....

A short List.

Shpongle is sold out everywhere around here, so I finally placed an order for Are you Shpongled yesterday...

more..

Massive Attack - Mezzanine
very dark ambient and moody.  some of the moodiest music i've ever heard.  excellent chick singer, awesome CD to chill out to in a dark room.

Nightmares On Wax - Carboot Soul
nice mellow and very flowy.  good to listen to on a sunny day... I picture urban areas in other countries when I hear it.

American Beauty Soundtrack
directed by Tim Newton (i think)...  A very cool array of instruments..  Well you probably already know what it sounds like from the movie

Miles Davis - Bitches Brew
30 minute long trippy as hell pieces.  It's not cliche jazzy at all.. very haunting and twisted sounding. quite a masterpiece.

ill make your ears bleed...and you'll love it!

at the gates- slaughter of the soul
at the gates, now cradle of filth + danni filth. chaotic black metal twisted with beautiful, melodic melodies...somehow, it just works perfectly.

every time i die- last night in town
some great hardcore/metalcore. the actual music sometimes feels as though its lacking something, but the beautifully written lyrics make up for everything.

converge- jane doe
200mph down the road and you just let go of the wheel. speed injected tunes laced with dark overtones and ear shattering fun.

norma jean- bless the martyr & kiss the child
norma jean, formerly luti-kriss show great progression with this follow up cd to throwing myself. the new cd compiles impulsive guitar riffs, some tight drumming and great lyrics.

*warning: if ears begin to bleed, consult a doctor first, not sgc*

Heheh, If any of them can top Meshuggah (volume / intensity wise) I'll be impressed.

that 200mph thing sounds interesting...

most heavy music bores me pretty fast (unless I am at a concert in a moshpit than it is the best)

the only heavy groups I listen to right now: mudvayne, system of a down, RATM, meshuggah, Candiria, Sepultura, and a little bit from other groups.

Single Cell Orchestra
Not sure about album names, but they have some really trippy slow ambient stuff (as well as upbeat)  Their slower tracks remind me destroyed spaceship fragments floating slowly through space.

Amon Tobin - Supermodified
Some sort of talented percussionist with lots of interesting samples. Very diverse music, check it out.

Led Zeppelin - 1-4 definately... Probably their others too
Iron Maiden - The Number of the Beast, Piece of Mind, Powerslave, Somewhere in Time, really good albums
Megadeth - Peace Sells, Rust in Peace
Metallica - Master of Puppets
Slayer - Reign in Blood
Yeah that's some good music there, depending on your tastes.
