Reccommend me some tunes

i'm about to burn a CD but i've been out of touch from the music community for a couple years now. i have absolutely nothing to look for except some old herbie hancock songs. can you reccommend me some songs? i'm going squeeze as many as i can on the CD probably without listening to them first so try to make it good. if it's rockish, i like layered, musically complex stuff (relatively) like love battery and the new pornographers. i'm especially looking for acid jazz and other cool and inventive forms of electronica (no generic dance music though). any suggestions? the trippier the better!
NO nu metal please.

Well you hardly gave us much to work with, in regards to what types of music youre into...hopefully youre like me, and just really enjoy anything that speaks to you aesthetically and/or spiritually.
These are all artists (some new, some old) that I would highly recommend checking out.
John Frusciante (guitarist of Chili Peppers...solo work is MUCH different than his music with RHCP) Air (tasteful electronica/ambient) M83 (ditto ^) Iron&Wine (simple but lush lo-fi indie) Mogwai (Wonderful progressive/experimental rock) Explosions In The Sky (ditto ^) Joe Strummer & The Mescaleros (i highly recommend the album "Global a Go Go" Squarepusher (Electronica, with dashes and doses of sounds from all over the musical spectrum)
I won't be the usual music whore that i am, so I'll stop the list now and let others chime in.
Enjoy the tuuuunes!

Here are a few selections from different genres.
Autechre - The most fucked up electronic music ever. Their music cannot be compared to anything else. LP5 is an experience. I might call it the musical form of DXM, if that's any help.
Santana - Jazz, salsa, rock, and blues. First 5 albums are particularly good.
Nine Inch Nails - Very difficult to define a genre for NIN. One might attempt and say it's industrial/electronic/rock/alternative, but that would fail to describe it. Trent Reznor is NIN. The music is unique and totally awesome, easily one of my favorite bands. They're currently touring; don't miss them
Primus - I think Primus is its sort of own genre. Les Claypool calls it "psychedelic polka." Claypool is an excellent bassist.
The Orb - Ambient, electronic. Wonderful trip music.
Pink Floyd - Psychedelic rock/progressive rock with slight undertones of jazz and blues. I could go into every tiniest detail about them and their albums if you wanted, but I'll make this short . The greatest band ever.
Bob Marley & The Wailers - Reggae. Most people know of Bob Marley. It's great music, totally chill. Marley will always put you in a good mood! -
If you haven't heard Grateful Dead or Phish live, you can't possibly imagine what you're missing.
