Serious amount of metabolites
    #16854477 - 09/16/12 01:58 AM (12 years, 4 months ago)

Now I've heard RR say that he doesn't like calling it myc piss.  But I must surely say that I can't think of anything that describes this better.  This jar fucking pissed all over itself.

The issue with this jar is that it's a couple months old (2-3) and it spent a few days (Well, like 5-8) possibly getting up to 90 degrees or so.  It doesn't seem to be contaminated but it's certainly shrunk a whole lot and there is the issue of the unpleasant yellow liquid.  I'm assuming that this stuff is fine to pour off, but would you use this as spawn?  Or should I just try and fruit it in a small terrarium or something since it's already consumed so much of the grains?

Heh yeah.  Shit's weird.  That's rye grain btw.  Never had my spawn do that before but I've also never let things get so far outside the normal conditions.

I kinda wanna use it as spawn since I figure it's got a lot of energy to spend from consuming the grains, and generally metabolites and such have antibiotic qualities, so I'm not too worried about it.  I would like a second opinion though for sure.

Well any water soaked into the grains would come out kinda yellow/brown.
and if exposed to temps that high it could have just sweated out all that mess.
I'd say its okay to use.

It's a highly stressed mycelium  :goinsane:

You can try using it, but I wouldn't expect great performances.

Hrm okay.  So perhaps a bit more prone to contamination or not going to fruit too well?  I have good jars laying around, I can start over with grain transfers, I was just not wanting to waste if I don't have to.

I think I'm going to do *something* with it. I have no idea what just yet, but I suppose I'll post another thread if that comes up.  But I've heard people say that mycelium that has had more time to absorb energy from the grains is more likely to produce potent mushrooms.  I can see why it being stressed by the heat would reverse that fact but you never know what's inside of there, really.

I don't really wanna waste it on a tub but I'll roll it in some verm or something and put it in a container and fan and mist and such.
