Inoculation mistake....advice?
    #1685414 - 07/04/03 12:17 AM (21 years, 6 months ago)

Ok so my FOAF made for holes in each lid like he was supposed to. He sterlizized his syringe every time he inoculated a jar, very precautious, so there were no contam issues from the needle. The substrate might be a little dryer than usual (as mentioned in a post I posted not to long ago...)

Anyway...what he just discovered that he did wrong was he didn't inoculate the jars on the sides, he injected the spores right into the cakes, so the mycelium is growing from the inside out. Now onto the questions...

1. Is that a bad thing?

2. It will take longer to actually see the growth right?

He says that 5 jars are now showing signs of growth (this is 8 days after inoculation)...2 jars have 1 nickle size dot and the other 3 have a tiny little patch that is barely showing comming out of the substrate....so just wait and see what happens?

1. Not really, as then you know your cakes are fully colonized and don't have to fuck around with wondering about the middle.

2. Yes it will take longer to see it, but this does not mean it is not happening.

Edit:Spelling
